As I was driving home later this afternoon, I drove by a liquor store, and
saw a sign that read " We ID" I didn't really think anything of it at first,
but as I sat at the red light, I looked at it again, and wondered if liquor
stores really need to tell people that they ID? I know it is a good disclaimer
to have out front, but I would hope that every store that sells anything like
that would check to see if the people they are selling to are old enough to be
buying it.
Then I started to wonder if there was a store somewhere that had a sign
advertising "We DON'T ID!!!" and whether or not it would stay open long enough
before the authorities made them change their ways. I just don't understand how
people need to advertise that they will check IDs of anyone who walks in the
store. It should be understood that if you intend to buy alcohol, or
cigarettes, or anything that has a minimum age requirement, that you are
prepared to show identification.
I used to work in a place that sold items that had a minimum age
requirement, and when I would ask for ID, most everyone would be glad to show me
their license, but there were always those who didn't think they had to. If you
are fortunate enough, or unfortunate enough to look like you are old enough to
buy the stuff, don't get offended when someone asks for your ID. Take it as a
compliment that they think you look younger than you actually are!

Happy summer to everyone! Summer has finally arrived, and here in
Minnesota, that means two things.... road construction and mosquitos. My father
always says there are two seasons in Minnesota: Winter and road construction,
and he is absolutely right. I grew up in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis,
so I never really got the full effect of it... until now. Even just the past
few weeks in the metro (southern metro especially) there have been extended road
closings (35W for weekends at a time), lane closures, and endless areas with
reduced speed. I realize it is necessary to keep our roads in working
condition, but it is a nuisance.
Mosquitos... who knows why they are here. Obviously the whole circle of
life thing, but wouldn't we all feel a little better if we didn't have to
constantly hit ourselves trying to stave off itching during the summer? I know
I would. I think I have a couple bruises on my legs already from trying to
catch the little buggers. (pun intended) If someone knows of a truly effective
bug spray out there, this guy would love to know! I've tried many, and still
have little bumps from the little suckers (again, intended), so let me know and
if it works, I might have a prize for you.......... or not.
I hope to see everyone out at a show this summer! Goodness knows we have
enough of them!
Dave
